What I'd like to see is for San Antonio to become a city like San Francisco or New York where it isn't necessary to own a car. We have a long way to go in terms of both transit systems and cultural attitudes before that can happen, if it ever does.
Steps in that direction would include expanded bus service, streetcars, a light rail system that serves both downtown and outlying areas, and a marketing campaign to encourage people to use public transit. If more people start using these alternatives, the benefits will include reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality, as well as making San Antonio more livable.
